P1(b) Script

Script - The Runaway

Characters:

Ben - Oliver Weston
Martha (Dog)
Ben's mum - Jennifer Weston (Voice in background)

EXT. BLEAN WOODS - DAY

Long shot of Blean woods with background music -

INT. KITCHEN & BEDROOM - DAY 
switches to a medium shot of kitchen and Ben's room.

Ben is in bed asleep when all of a sudden he hears his mum shouting at him from the other room.

Music stops

Ben wakes up.

Ben's mum - 'BEN!!! Can you actually get out of bed and do something productive with your life! The kitchen is a tip and the dog needs to be let out!'

Ben sighs, and gets out of bed. (Background Music starts to play again)

INT. HOUSE (STAIRS,BEDROOM,KITCHEN) - DAY

He walks downstairs, lets the dog out and walks into the kitchen to see dirty dishes everywhere, random pills on the table and alcohol in the sink. He starts to tidy up, throws the pills in the bin and begins to get rid of the alcohol. Suddenly his mum is shouting at him again.The music stops.

Ben's mum - 'For goodness sake Ben, I am still drinking that! I told you to take the dog for a walk, she is driving me bonkers just as you are! You never do anything to help and you are a complete waste of space, just get out!!!!'

Ben's facial expressions grow angered and he drops the alcohol and runs upstairs, into his room, at this point there is tense music starting to play. Ben starts to pack his bag with clothes etc. He then goes downstairs and packs a loaf of bread and water bottle. He grabs the dogs lead and puts it on the dog.

Ben:'Come on Martha, there's nothing left here for us! Lets get out of here!'


EXT. FRONT GARDEN - DAY

Ben walks out of the house, slams the door and runs away into the woods. once he is in the woods, he finds a log and sits down.

EXT. BLEAN WOODS - DAY

Another long shot of Blean woods to set the scene.

Ben starts talking to himself tearing up

Ben: 'I am never ever going back.'

He empties his backpack and realises there is nothing in there he needs to survive. He suddenly drops his backpack and stands up with the dog lead in his hand. He wipes away his tears.

Ben - 'Are you ready?' (Looking down at the dog)

He takes the dog off the lead, looks directly into the camera and starts running with the dog running beside him. As he is running, he starts to smile as he realises he is free.

EXT. BLEAN WOODS - DAY

Suddenly, in time with tense music, there is a medium shot of big boots walking towards and past camera towards the backpack. Then there is a closeup of this mysterious person's hands with gloves on going through the bag until he/she finds Ben's passport. This leaves the audience on a cliffhanger with them wanting to find out who this person is and if Ben is safe.
